Korean news outlets are reporting that Song Hye Kyo and Jun Ji Hyun have become the first-ever Korean female actresses to earn 200 million won [roughly $170,000] per episode.

According to media reports, the two actresses are currently getting paid over 200 million won per episode. Jun Ju Hyun is leading “Jirisan” while Song Hye Kyo is starring in “Now We Are Breaking Up.”

This is huge news because Korean actresses don’t get paid nearly as much as their male counterparts, even with A-list actresses.

In the case of Song Hye Kyo, it was already known that she was getting paid over 100 million won per episode of tvN’s “Boyfriend” in 2018. Her immense influence and star power contributed to the rise in the amount she’s paid per drama.

Jun Ju Hyun is currently leading “Jirisan” and while the drama hasn’t been the massive success it was expected to be domestically, the drama’s rights have been sold to the streaming platform iQIYI for over 20 billion KRW (~ $17 million USD) before the drama even aired demonstrating the actress’s star power.

As of now, Jun Ji Hyun and Song Hye Kyo are the only Korean actresses known for getting paid 200 million won per episode. Originally, there is a very small list of Korean actresses who get paid 100 million won per episode, unlike their male counterparts. The list includes Son Ye Jin, Lee Young Ae and Go Hyun Jung.
