It’s the 10th anniversary of the shocking and tragic death of a kpop idol who was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend.
10 years after the tragic sudden passing of Iris’s Lee Eun Mi, Korean news outlets are remembering the idol and the shocking tragic story of her death.

Lee Eun Mi was only 24 years old, she was stabbed to death 65 times by Mr. Cho (who was 28 years old), she was stabbed several times around her neck and abdomen by him on her way to her home.
It was reported that Lee Eun Mi had broken up recently with Mr. Cho who didn’t take it very well. He said their relationship was serious and they were even discussing marriage. Due to the breakup, Mr. Cho said he lost his rationality and committed murder.
As soon as the news broke out, messages of support and condolences to the grieving family were pouring online.
The police secured eyewitness statements and reports from nearby people. Mr. Cho was found at the highway rest area the next day, was arrested, and in police custody when the news shook the industry.
Lee Eun Mi’s sister broke the tragic news to fans who were shocked to learn of the reason for her passing, she wrote,
“Hello, this is Lee Eun-mi’s younger sibling. Today, my sister went to heaven. I still cannot believe it. Please pray for her that she may rest in peace.”
Lee Eun Mi debuted in 2005 with the single “Message of Love” and was part of the trot girl group Iris as their main vocalist. She was part of a group under Fly 21 Entertainment.
Not long after her ex-boyfriend was arrested, he was trialed and found guilty of murder, he was sentenced to 17 years in jail. The court originally rued for 20 years but cut back three years after seeing how he demonstrated his remorse.
The court said,
“After being told their relationship is over, Cho attempted to meet with her and fix their relationship but was met with words of shame and hurt, leading him to murder her in a gruesome manner. A heavy sentence is inevitable.”
Mr. Cho deposited $10,000 to Lee Eun Mi’s family in effort to recover their loss, thus, his sentencing was reduced from 20 to 17 years.
