“Hospital Playlist 2” has finally premiered and its like an old friend whom you adore is back in town and you finally get to catch up with them.

“Hospital Playlist 2” is a soothing experience for the most part. Its a drama you watch to chill and enjoy, and the drama delivers again with its first episode of the highly anticipated second season.

Note: this will be a spoiler review of the said episodes in the title. This is a subjective review.

So let’s dive right in and discuss this week’s episode.

The squad is back

“Hospital Playlist 2” is arguably one of the most anticipated kdramas of 2021. After finding massive success with its first season, it came back with its second and its exactly what you’d expect.

One of the best parts is getting to catch up with your favorite squad. There are many articles around the web that discuss what exactly we need to remember before watching “Hospital Playlist 2” episode 1 and I’d recommend you take a look at one of them.

The drama truly shines due to the squad, the casting is truly one of the reasons this drama is a huge success. I like the chemistry between the cast and they truly feel like old friends who have known each other for a long time.

The pacing

“Hospital Playlist 2” episode 1 was 1 hour and 30 minutes, I won’t lie its a bit too long for my taste but since we get one episode weekly, I understand the decision to make it this long.

“Hospital Playlist 2” pacing is okay, I wouldn’t say its the fastest, but its a healing type of drama that takes its time and it feels like you’re watching people in real life. This is why its so special and despite being about mundane daily events, it excels and delivers great content.

There were a couple of moments in “Hospital Playlist 2” episode 1 where I felt it was a bit stretchy and needlessly long but for the most part, I’d say I enjoyed my time.

The writing

Screenwriter Lee Woo Jung is truly exceptional at making average mundane events come out so well. Some dramas attempt to pull off a thing similar to what she does but I’d say she’s one of the most successful writers in making such content.

What I like about “Hospital Playlist” was confirmed to me shortly after watching the first couple of minutes of the first episode. There is a sense of familiarity, comfort, and excitement. It’s not the most daring or dramatic thing out there, its quite the opposite but it works because it’s “Hospital Playlist 2.”

What I also like about “Hospital Playlist 2” is how Screenwriter Lee Woo Jung is always faithful to make sure the dialogue and characters’ interactions feel real. She could’ve easily made the drama feel more dramatic but she keeps the pacing like it always was and delivers what we expect of her. She doesn’t get carried away or stray away which isn’t easy to do as much as you’d expect.

“Hospital Playlist 2” discusses couples and crushes in many stages, I like how characters feel like humans in these interactions. Its never all roses and rainbows, it almost doesn’t feel like a ‘drama’ at times, the awkwardness of getting to know your new partner, the hesitation in confessing and accepting your best friend feelings and the persistent to pursue someone you like without fail. Those feel ‘real.’

I saw a lot of people upset at how Song Hwa turned down Ik Jun, aside from the fact that we have 11 more episodes to go, I honestly totally understand and agree with Song Hwa’s approach. It was kinda awkward and sad watching her turn him down but I would’ve done the same and I think the reasons she did that are easy to comprehend but we just can’t accept it yet.

I do feel like they’ll be the end-game eventually, but her hesitation is understandable, added to that, you have peer pressure, and too much to lose if the relationship doesn’t end up working out.

If you guys follow my reviews then you probably already could tell this was going to be my thoughts on this point. And honestly, I will say this, I don’t mind them staying friends and Ik Jun quitting pursuing her, I think it would make for a more ‘comfortable’ watching experience but it’d also be slightly less exciting. I know the screenwriter isn’t done with them quite yet, but I am the type of person who doesn’t mind unusual endings if they’re justified. I think people will riot if they don’t end together and I highly doubt the writer would do that, but if she did it, I’d be okay with it.
