The news regarding the sudden departure from GFRIEND from their agency has kept fans digging information about what exactly went wrong and a recent report is puzzling fans, to say the least.

On May 18, Source Music announced that the group members have all decided to depart the agency shocking fans who had no idea this was coming. The news was such a shock to both domestic and international fans are the group had been actively promoting and releasing content, no signs of the group members’ departure was ever felt by the fandom.

According to a new report by HeraldPop, Source Music has registered trademarks for GFRIEND at the Korean Intellectual Property Office. GFRIEND was approved back in March of 2021 while ‘ 여자친구’ the Korean word for GFRIEND was registered back in January of 2015.

The report that the trademark for GFRIEND was registered so late is puzzling fans to say the least. This means that in order for the group to be able to perform their songs or use their names, they have to either pay Source Music or be granted a permission by the agency itself.

All eyes are on the members next move as fans wonder what will happen now and whether this means the group has disbanded or whether they can reunite under a new label and promote again as a group.
