Upcoming Drama “My Roommate Is A Gumiho” has opted out of showing any Chinese PPL [product placement] despite accepting Chinese investment.
The upcoming tvN drama is set to air sometime in May and is one of the most anticipated projects of the first half of 2021. It is led by Jang Ki Yong, Hyeri and Kang Ha Na and is based on a webcomic.
Despite accepting Chinese investment, its been reported that the drama will edit out content featuring Chinese PPL due to recent heightened tension between South Korea and China and the backlash other dramas have gotten into due to showing Chinese PPL.
Previously, tvN’s “Vincenzo” was under fire for its Chinese bibimbap, it has also edited out the controversial scene and apologized.
However, it remains unchanged that “My Roommate Is A Gumiho” is set to stream on the Chinese OTT platform iQIYI
“My Roommate Is A Gumiho” tells the story of a 999 year old nine-tailed fox who wished to become human, he collects human beads, due to a series of events, his beads fall into a university student, this jeopardizes his chances of becoming human. He suggests they should live together until they figure out how to deal with it.
