BTS has achieved a new world record!

The IFPI’s Global Album Sales Chart data has been released and BTS has come on top.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) is an organization that represents the recorded music industry worldwide. Through its official social media channels, it has shared its annual ranking of the best-selling albums across global physical sales and digital downloads.

BTS’s “Map of the Soul: 7” is the winner on the IFPI Global Album Sales Chart 2020, the album was released in February 2020. While “BE (Deluxe Edition)” came in number 2, BTS’s fourth Japanese full album “Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~” also scores a spot in the Top 10, taking No. 8.

This makes BTS the first act in history to earn the top 2 bestselling albums on a year-end IFPI chart (pure sales). It also makes BTS the first act to rank three albums in the top 10 on IFPI’s year-end global album sales chart since Michael Jackson in 2009.

BLACKPINK has also made its debut on the list with their first album “The Album” which was released in October of 2020. Thus, BLACKPINK has become the first girl group to rank in the top 10 on IFPI’s year-end global pure album sales chart since Destiny’s Child in 2004.

Check out the IFPI’s Top 10 Global Albums for 2020 below:

1. BTS’s “Map Of The Soul: 7” (4.8 million total global units)
