Lee Do Hyun Past Interview About His Brother Who Has Development Disability Gains Attention

Actor Lee Do Hyun has been making headlines recently for his acting in JTBC’s “18 Again.” Some fans have looked back at some of his old interviews and in one of them; they discovered something interesting about his life.

In a 2019 interview, Lee Do Hyun brought up the topic of his family and their difficult circumstances, he also added that his younger brother has a developmental disability, this topic came up when he was asked about his goals for 2020, he mentioned that he’d love to be the only one working in his family next year and when the interviewer asked him to elaborate he explained,

“My parents have both worked for a long time; my younger brother has a developmental disability. Thankfully, our country has good programs in place for the disabled, and he’s currently working at a grocery mart.

But there is this atmosphere of discrimination and mistreatment against him.

My mom has delivered newspapers for a long time and when I asked her why, she said our family has lots of debt, and I told her I’d pay it off in 2020.

I am not sure if I’ll be able to do it but it’s my goal. So in 2020, I hope that my mom, dad and Donghyuk (his younger brother name) can rest at home and we can all live off of my earnings.

I think this will put my mind at ease when I enlist.”

The interview also asked him about his brother, he explained that his brother has a developmental disability, and it’s not clear when you see him but after talking to him for about 10 minutes, you can tell. His social skills and intelligence is about that of a middle schooler.

Lee Do Hyun’s brother is also overweight, he says that many people look down on him and tease him for this; he’d go around and tell those who bully him to leave him alone, Lee Do Hyun says Donghyuk inspired him for his acting.

When the interviewer apologized for asking such a personal question, Lee Do Hyun said that he doesn’t normally mention his family matter so specifically but if he ends up talking with someone, the topic comes up because he cares deeply about his brother.

Lee Do Hyun is currently receiving attention for his acting in the JTBC drama “18 Again.” He first gained attention for his role in the hit tvN drama “Hotel Del Luna.”
