Fans are questioning why BTS wasn’t nominated for the “Top Social Artist” at the 2020 BBMAs, why?

A couple of hours ago, The 2020 BBMAs (Billboard Music Awards) revealed the nominees for its upcoming award ceremony, and BTS snagged two nominations, one for the “Top Duo/Group” and another for the “Top Social Artist.” Fans had been expecting another nomination for but were shocked to not see it in the announcement.

According to Billboard‘s “2019 Year-End Boxscore Charts”, BTS had the third highest-grossing tour grossing more than $196 million. At the time of that announcement, fans were happily celebrating just how high BTS ranked beating many other worldwide artists to the top of the list. Based on this list, fans expected BTS to be surely nominated for the “Top Touring Artist” award at the 2020 BBMAs.

However, when the nominations for this award was announced, all the top 5 in the previous list mentioned (aside from BTS) were nominated, including Metallica, who ranked 6th on the chart.

Fans were shocked by the nominees and many left comments asking why this became the case. Many also questioned the BBMAs about the criteria. Previously, the BBMAs announced this as the criteria,

“The 2020 #BBMAs on October 14 will be based on the chart period of March 23, 2019 through March 14, 2020, set for the originally scheduled April 29, 2020 show, in an effort to recognize and honor the chart-topping artists and musical successes achieved during that period.”

However, fans argue that BTS “Speak Yourself” Tour started in May of 2019 and ended in October of 2019, thus, fans believe BTS should’ve still been nominated.
