“Backstreet Rookie” Heads Into The Finale With A Noticeable Decline In Ratings

“Backstreet Rookie” 15th episode has not performed as well as expected.

“Backstreet Rookie” has one more episode to go that will air later today.

On August 6, it aired its 15th episode and according to Nielsen Korea, the broadcast scored average nationwide ratings of 5.2% and 6.9%, a noticeable decline from last week’s episodes.

Fans wonder whether the drama will end with better ratings or worse, many are still supportive of the drama and it’s doing well among international fans.

Meanwhile JTBC’s “Graceful Friends” scored an average nationwide rating of 4.4%, a slight increase from last week’s episode.

Will you be watching “Backstreet Rookie” finale later today?

My Personal Thoughts

I watched episode 15 and oh lord, it dragged on for so long and ended on such a disappointing note, I don’t know if the drama will manage to do better or worse with its 16th episode (in terms of ratings).

Note: discussing spoilers ahead of ep 15.

We got that mandatory ‘Imma leave you for no valid reason’ plot device and its honestly lazy writing at this point. I feel like the writer stopped trying on episode 4. What’s going on?

Saet Byul finally got the confession she longed for but for whatever stupid nonexistent reason decides to not begin dating him and by the end of the series, decides to take off like she did a million times before. Why? Why can’t you say goodbye properly? and why is the writer making her actions so unlikeable?

What hurts is the fact that the actors are doing their best… Dear writernim, why would you use these plot devices? I wanted “Backstreet Rookie” to do well, I really did but I am disappointed with how the drama showed lack of plot development for the majority of its run. I can barely name three important things that happened on episode 15 and it’s the one before the finale, we should be getting a lot of action.

I plan on writing about “Backstreet Rookie,” but it likely won’t be a nice review. I am contemplating whether to write it because I know I’ll get massive hate from Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung fans if I do. I’ll see the 16th episode and decide accordingly.
