Published Categorized as Kdrama and Movies

June 2020 is going to be an amazing month for kdrama fans!

June is probably the least active month for kdrama releases in 2020 thus far, all the previous months of 2020 were packed with back to back new releases of kdramas led by some of the best in the industry, but June doesn’t have a lot of those.

Instead, this month will mark two of the biggest hallyu stars comebacks, Kim Soo Hyun and Ji Chang Wook. The two amazing actors are coming back with projects later this month, and today we’re here to talk about what to expect ahead of the two dramas premieres.

“Backstreet Rookie”

Ji Chang Wook is considered by many to be one of the most famous Korean actors, every project he’s in immediately catches international kdrama fans attention, so when it was announced he’d be pairing with Kim Yoo Jung, everyone was freaking out and we’re less than 10 days away from “Backstreet Rookie” premiere.

So what’s the premise of “Backstreet Rookie”?

The drama is based on a hit webtoon titled “Convenience Store Saet-Byeol” and tells the love story between handsome convenience store owner Choi Dae Hyun (Ji Chang Wook) and eccentric part-time employee Jung Saet Byul (played by Kim Yoo Jung). The drama is directed by Lee Myung Woo of “The Fiery Priest,” which was considered one of the biggest kdramas of 2019.

An idea about the cast

Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung are playing the two leads as previously explained.

Han Sun Hwa (will play Choi Dae Hyun’s girlfriend Yoo Yeon Joo).

LABOUM’s Solbin (will play Jung Saet Byul’s younger sister Jun Eun Byul).

Do Sang Woo (will play Jo Seung Joon).

When will it air?

“Backstreet Rookie” will air as a follow up to “The King: Eternal Monarch.” The drama was originally scheduled to air later this week but was delayed because the production team behind “The King: Eternal Monarch” also pushed back an episode, as a result, “Backstreet Rookie” will air its first episode on June 19.

“It’s Okay to Not Be Okay”

Kim Soo Hyun was discharged from the military last year and has since made two cameo appearances on TV that garnered much attention from fans all around the world. When news about his highly anticipated drama was released, fans couldn’t have been happier. They’re also super excited to see him getting paired with an actress his age.

So what is “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” about?

“It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” tells the story of a community health worker, Moon Kang Tae, who works at a psychiatric ward; he doesn’t have time for love, and a storybook writer, Go Moon Young, who has never known love and was diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder. After meeting each other, they begin healing one another’s wounds.

“Psycho But It’s Okay” will be directed by Park Shin Woo, the director behind the hit dramas “Encounter” and “Don’t Dare to Dream (Jealousy Incarnate).”

An idea about the cast

This drama is led by Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji as explained previously and also includes Oh Jung Se (who will play the autistic brother), Park Gyu Young (who will play psychiatric nurse Nam Joo Ri). The extended cast also includes: Kim Joo Heon, Kim Chang Wan, Kim Mi Kyung, Jang Young Nam, Lee Eol, Kang Ki Doong, Park Jin Joo, and fromis_9’s Jang Gyuri.

When will it air?

“It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” will air as a follow-up to “”When My Love Blooms,” the premiere episode will air on June 20.

Will the two stars be competing on the same time slot?

As much as it would’ve been interesting to see that, it’s not the case. “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” not only airs a day later (each Saturday and Sunday) but also airs at 9 p.m. KST. Meanwhile, “Backstreet Rookie” will air each Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. KST. There could be an overlap of 10 minutes in between the two dramas on Saturday but the two are not competing on the same timeslot.
