It’s been reported that “Arthdal Chronicles” is gearing up to begin production for its second season.
An exclusive media report stated that “Arthdal Chronicles” will begin production for its second season in September or October of 2020 at the latest. The main cast of the drama Song Joong Ki, Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ji Won, and Kim Ok Bin are expected to reprise their roles, as well as the rest of the cast that was not killed in the series thus far.
The production team is reportedly trying their best to come up with a schedule to accommodate the actors’.
However, it’s been reported that the director will likely change. Director Kim Won Suk has left the production company Studio Dragon (which produces “Arthdal Chronicles”) and is now working with KakaoM, he has also stated he will only direct one season early on. His chances of directing the second season are slim to none.
The first season that aired three parts ended with a terrible cliffhanger that had fans furious, many didn’t know that “Arthdal Chronicles” wasn’t going to wrap up with three parts. The production team had previously stated that they will work hard to bring the second season to life despite the challenges.
The drama cost a fortune to make, more than 50 billion won (about $42.4 million) and was met with mixed reactions and lackluster ratings despite its star-studded cast. Due to those conditions, the probability of a second season wasn’t looking that good.
“Arthdal Chronicles” was also met with controversy including reports about poor working conditions for the staff, and comparisons to “Game of Thrones” cast even more negative light onto the drama.
