Guess who could be the next hot on-screen couple? Its Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung!!!

On January 14, reports circulated online claiming that Ji Chang Wook is joining the upcoming lifetime drama “Convenience Store Saet Byul.”

Later, his agency Glorious Entertainment told news outlets that it’s not true that Ji Chang Wook is confirmed for the drama, its only one of the many projects he’s been offered, he’s currently considering this drama among others as well.

Not too long ago, reports revealed that Kim Yoo Jung was also offered to play the female leading role.

“Convenience Store Saet Byul” tells the story of a part-time worker who’s quirky and her handsome by clumsy manager at a 24-hour convenience store. It will be helmed by (PD) Lee Myung Woo, who is known for his work on SBS’s “The Fiery Priest” last year.

However, despite fans excitement about Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung upcoming project, the possible pairing is making many uncomfortable.

Kim Yoo Jung only recently became 20 years old, on the other hand, Ji Chang Wook is 32 years old, he’s 12 years older. Fans feel iffy about the age gap, many still view Kim Yoo Jung as a young actress, they feel uncomfortable with the possible on-screen couple because of their huge age gap. Many don’t feel the pairing would work and they’d like Kim Yoo Jung to be paired with someone her age for a change instead of someone much older than her.

Little did fans know the plot itself is about a 20 year old young woman romancing a 30 year old man, so the casting offers aren’t really random.  Other fans don’t like the fact the webtoon is being adapted into a drama because it depicts violent and extreme sexual scenes, they’re against such a webtoon being adapted.

Here are some of fans comments:

i really love ji chang wook but isnt he too much old for her

I was read the Webtoon, and it contained many sexual and violence stuff, seriously among good Webtoon out there, why they pick that Webtoon for adaptation to drama

no hate but i hope one of them will declined

First I don’t like the storyline because it’s so similar to Kim Yoo Jung last drama Second why can’t they give Kim Yoo Jung a actor her age for once they keep pairing her with older men and it’s awkward sometimes but since it’s Ji Chang Wook I think it’s manageable

i have no problem with the actor and the actress but i think they are not matching together…especially with the romance scene…

What’s going on with this big age gap in k dramas recently

Complaining about the age gap but don’t you realize that several drama also have age gap like Goblin, doctors, mr sunshine. It’s nothing about the age gap but the storyline and how the actors/actress potrays their characters what makes it important.

“Convenience Store Saet Byul” is set to air some time in the second half of 2020.

What do you think of the possible pairing? Do you think they’d make a good match?

My Personal Thoughts

So apparently many kdrama fans who read the webtoon don’t like the fact that its being adapted into a real drama…. not to mention the age gap.

Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung last dramas were both below average in my opinion. Both characters’ description of this upcoming kdrama is very bland and basic. Kim Yoo Jung is basically playing the same character of her last drama. Also, I don’t understand why Kim Yoo Jung keeps choosing these types of projects where she’s paired with much older actors… I don’t understand why she’s choosing projects catered for someone older than her….

I know that Kim Yoo Jung wants to break free from her child-actress image but playing opposite much older actors for roles of older characters isn’t the answer. While in “Convenience Store Saet Byul” she would be playing a character her age for a change, I still don’t think it’s the right project for her at this stage of her career.

Also, I seriously hope that Ji Chang Wook picks a different project. “Melting Me Softly” was easily forgettable and one of his least well-performing dramas in years. He needs to try a new genre and a rom-com might not be the right answer.

I want to see Ji Chang Wook challenge himself. How about playing the role of a doctor? Or a detective? Play a role in a melo-drama that requires great acting skills? I think at this stage of his career, Ji Chang Wook needs to pick a difficult project, possibly play a character that isn’t easy to like to demonstrate his acting skills, I think he’s a good actor but choosing rom-coms to appeal to the public isn’t always the best decision career-wise.

While I might not be comfortable about the pairing or the idea of the drama to begin with, I will still root for them if they choose it, but as an avid fan of both actors, I seriously hope they pick different projects.
