ARMY have a lot of mixed feelings about BTS participating in this year’s Grammy Awards.
The beloved boy group was snubbed from the nomination list despite having been strong contenders for some of the biggest categories. ARMY didn’t react kindly to the snub and accused the Grammy Awards of using BTS for clout but not taking them seriously.
After finding out that BTS were set to join Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, Diplo for a performance of “Old Town Road All-Star,” ARMY were torn. Some were happy; others were sad because thought they deserved their own stage.
Today, a clip of the rehearsals was released; ARMY became furious, the clip shows BTS standing behind Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus looking like backup dancers hyping them up. ARMY became very angry and started trending #BTSdeservesbetter to express their disappointment with the award show and to talk about how the Grammy keeps treating BTS.
ARMY are also upset that the possibility of a solo BTS stage flew off the window after they watched this clip.
Here is how the fandom’s reacting:
Torn on how I feel about @BTS_twt on the #GRAMMYs. I know OTR was the biggest song of 2019 but feel like BTS should be doing their own thing. That said, the Grammys never have a large number of performances from any format so feel like it’s also an honor they are performing. ♂️

I thought BTS will gonna have a solo performance cause you already put them on the Grammy Performers List.
BUT WHAT IS THIS? ♂️
B*tch, they ain’t back-ups. #BTSDeservesBetter pic.twitter.com/nGmopiklLd

This is disgustingly disrespectful. Like the biggest boy group of the century being used as back up vocals for this flop of a show? This is just yells out clout and disrespect #BTSDeserveBetter pic.twitter.com/xAG0w2PcPR

This, imagine if BTS performed like this at the Grammys. They would outshine the other performances buy 100. So is that why they made BTS just backup singers? Grammy needs to get their shit together and give BTS the solo stage they deserve ♀️#BTSDeserveBetter pic.twitter.com/3hYgFX52Ox

the thing about bts is that they didn’t just blow up after one song … they had to work hard and countless hours to make it to where they are now. It’s not luck. but pure talent, dedication and love. #BTSDeserveBetter pic.twitter.com/kuxy082FTY

are y’all telling me the fucking grammy’s are daring to put a whole bts as backup dancers when they can have a whole ass award show at their feet bc of their amazing performances? BRUH tell me that ain’t just for clout #BTSDeserveBetter pic.twitter.com/JC3Bnm8ul7

This is sooo fucking painful to watch. THE GRAMMYS ARE HYPING BTS “performance” so much FOR THAT SHIT? Like they are using them but they can’t see it. This is so fucking disrespectful to them as artists #btsdeservebetter pic.twitter.com/AmQDagriTl

On a similar note, BTS has released new behind-the-scene photos of their rehearsal for the Grammys; take a look at the photos below:

BTS will be performing at the ’62nd Grammy Awards’ airing on Sunday, January 26 at 8PM EST on CBS.
What do you think of this situation? Do you think BTS deserve their own solo performance?
My Personal Thoughts
We don’t know if BTS will perform alone or not, it could be a surprising thing but I am afraid that this will be it, just a joint performance with Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Diplo.
Aside from my thoughts on Lil Nas X and his islamophobic remarks, the guy only blew up in 2019; I don’t understand how he gets to lead a stage with bigger more impactful artists like that…. I understand that his single was a smashing success but I don’t understand how he gets a stage while BTS don’t…. it doesn’t make any sense to me….
There are also a lot of issues going on after Recording Academy former president and CEO Deborah Dugan caused quite the stir with her statements talking about accusations of harassment, corruption and conflict of interest regarding the Grammys. The Grammys are not as big as they used to but in the mind of those who work in music it’s a great stepping stone and for foreign artists, it’s a huge platform.
Big Hit has the upper hand to refuse to let BTS perform unless they get their own stage. I understand it’s a big deal to get a Korean artist to perform on that stage but BTS worked so hard and is on the same level as anyone who’s nominated if not higher in terms of sales and impact. A mere collab stage isn’t right or worthy of BTS.
This is coming from a casual fan, I am not an ARMY but anyone with a brain who knows Kpop will probably agree that BTS are not being treated properly. We haven’t seen the ceremony yet, so we still could get a surprise performance but if not, I’ll be extremely disappointed with Big Hit for allowing it to happen. Guess we’ll talk after tomorrow’s show.
