There are many moments that went viral following the conclusion of 2019 MAMA; including those moments was none other than Kim Seok Jin’s scolding those who manipulate charts for their gain.

BTS members took turn speaking each time they won an award during the 2019 MAMA. One of those speeches caught the attention of news outlets considering the ongoing situation regarding sajaegi (chart manipulation).

Sajaegi is basically when an artist/agency pays for brokers to bulk buy an album or stream a song which is considered illegal, this results in the song rising up the charts at weird times when everybody is usually sleeping and not streaming. Its been difficult to catch singers who use sajaegi.

Previously, Block B’s member Park Kyung spoke up about sajaegi and name-dropped a couple of artists which resulted in him getting sued by all the artists he mentioned. Despite that, Park Kyung didn’t back down and chose to fight the lawsuits head on with the support of his agency who didn’t turn their backs on him despite the lawsuits awaiting him.

After that, many prominent artists spoke up about Park Kyung’s bravery and sajaegi. Industry insiders also spoke up about how huge the issue is and how its affecting Kpop idol groups and those who sincerely work hard but can’t compete with fabricated results.

During their speech for Song of The Year award, Jin said,

“There are many artists- including those who are here today- who make good songs, I hope the world will become a place where all of those songs are recognized and listened to a lot.

There are dishonest ways being used which are okay too, but what about making music with more honest methods?

I hope for a time when everyone’s making good music and listening to good music.”

His bold statement earned him even more respect since many netizens already support Park Kyung and anyone who speaks up about such issues that are severely affecting honest artists. Jin didn’t drop names but addressed the situation well.

Fans believe Jin made a smart move to call out the artists who use such methods on one of the biggest music awards in South Korea.
