2019 is slowly coming to an end, soon, more kdramas will wrap up and new kdramas will air in 2020.

2020 is packed with projects, from small romantic comedies to sci-fi projects; some of the best Korean actors are set to make their return in 2020.

Today, we shall go over the list of upcoming 2020 kdramas.

Note: this article will be periodically updated to include upcoming new 2020 kdramas.

“Money Game”

The upcoming Wednesday-Thursday tvN drama will be led by Go Soo, Lee Sung Min and Shim Eun Kyung.

It tells the story of another IMF crisis about to hit Korea in 2020, and a group of people at the Financial Services Commission who are trying to prevent it from happening.

“Money Game” will premiere on January 15, 2020.

“Tale of Gumiho”

Lee Dong Wook and Jo Bo Ah are set to lead the upcoming drama “Tale of Gumiho.”

The drama will tell the story of the gumiho Yi Yeon, played by Lee Dong Wook, who once used to be the a living god of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range but now works as a public official between this world and the underworld. His job is to clean up the mess left by those who disturb the world of the living while hiding behind the mask of ghost tales. He is handsome, has great athletic abilities, self-righteous but violent at times.

It will be helmed by director Kang Shin Hyo and written by Han Woo Ri, they both previously worked on OCN’s “Children of a Lesser God.”

“Tale of Gumiho” is set to air sometime in 2020 on tvN.

“Itaewon Class”

“Itaewon Class” is named one of the most anticipated 2020 kdramas as it marks Park Seo Joon return.

It is led by Park Seo Joon, Kim Da Mi, Yoo Jae Myung, and Kwon Na Ra.

“Itaewon Class” tells the story of young people who fight back against unreasonable society as they chase after their dreams. Park Seo Joon is taking on the role of Park Sae Roy, a passionate entrepreneur who cannot stand injustice and corruption. Armed with his anger over the death of his father, he burst onto the Itaewon scene going up against the food industry conglomerate Jang Ga.

“Itaewon Class” premieres on January 31 at 10:50 p.m. KST.

“Hi Bye, Mama!”

One of the most popular respected Korean actresses is returning in 2020 with a new kdrama.

Upcoming tvN drama “Hi Bye, Mama!” is led by Kim Tae Hee and Lee Kyu Hyung.

It tells the story of a woman named Cha Yu Ri (played by Kim Tae Hee), who, after passing away in a tragic accident, returns to her husband (Jo Kang Hwa, played by Lee Kyu Hyung) and daughter for 49 days as a ghost.

“Hi Bye, Mama!” is expected to air sometime in February 2020.

“Tell Me What You Saw”

The upcoming suspense thriller OCN drama is about a genius profiler named Oh Hyun Jae (played by Jang Hyuk) who has lost everything, and a detective with photographic memory named Cha Soo Young (played by Girls’ Generations’ Sooyoung) who work together to hunt down a serial killer.

Other leads in the drama include Jin Seo Yeon, Jang Hyun Sung, and Ryu Seung Soo.

“Tell Me What You Saw” premieres on February 1 at 10:30 p.m. KST.

“The Most Beautiful Moment in Life”

Another highly anticipated tvN drama that boasts a stellar cast, it will be led by Yoo Ji Tae, Lee Bo Young, GOT7’s Jinyoung, and Jeon So Nee.

The drama tells the story of a woman who reunites with her first love in their 40s. Lee Bo Young and Yoo Ji Tae are set to play the middle-aged Yoon Ji Soo and Han Jae Hyun of present-day, while Jeon So Nee and GOT7’s Jinyoung are playing the characters’ younger counterparts from the ’90s.

“The Most Beautiful Moment in Life” is expected to air in April following the conclusion of “Hi Bye, Mama!”

“Alice”

“Alice” marks the highly anticipated return of two respected actors, Joo Won and Kim Hee Sun.

The upcoming SBS sci-fi drama tells the story about a detective without emotions (Joo Won) who learns about the existence of time travelers, who come from the future through a device called “Alice.”

While investigating the device, he has a fateful reunion with a woman who died a long time ago (Kim Hee Sun).

“Alice” will premiere sometime in 2020.

“Hyena”

“Hyena” boasts great cast, Kim Hye Soo and Joo Ji Hoon were cast as the leads, and they will be joined by Lee Kyung Young, Song Young Kyu, Jeon Suk Ho, Ji Hyun Joon and Hwang Bo Ra.

It tells the story about the fierce competition between lawyers who use their knowledge of the law to pursue their ambitions for money. It gained a lot of attention for being directed by “My Love from the Star” PD Jang Tae Yoo

“Hyena” premieres on February 21 at 10 p.m. KST.

“Forest”

The upcoming KBS drama will be led by Park Hae Jin and Jo Bo Ah. It is helmed by “Twelve Men in a Year” PD.

It is about Kang San Hyeok (Park Hae Jin) who a member of the 119 special rescue team. He is handsome and smart, but he does not remember his childhood. Jung Young Jae (Jo Bo Ah) is an enthusiastic surgical resident.

Both leads meet at a mysterious forest. Even though they do not want to, they must live together in the mysterious forest. Living there, they discover small pleasures and uncover a secret about themselves and the forest.

It will air on January 29th.

“365”

“365” tells the story of people who go back in time to exactly one year ago in hopes of creating the perfect life for themselves, but instead, they find themselves trapped in a mysterious survival game.

Nam Ji Hyun is taking on the role of Shin Ga Hyun, a webtoon artist who has been working on the popular webtoon “Hidden Killer” for the past three years. She is a sensitive perfectionist who can’t let go of one bad comment even if she read thousands of other good comments.

However, she suffers from an accident that alters her life; at that moment she receives an offer to reset her life.

She will be starring opposite Lee Joon Hyuk. Anticipation is rising as it marks her first drama in nearly two years since the very successful drama “100 Days My Prince” in 2018.

“365” is expected to air in March of 2020.

“Good Casting”

The upcoming SBS drama is an action comedy about three beautiful secret agents who go undercover to investigate the truth behind a corrupt corporation.

It will be led by Choi Kang Hee, Yoo In Young, Kim Ji Young, and Lee Sang Yeob.

“Good Casting” is expected to air in April of 2020.

“Memorist”

The upcoming tvN drama is based on the hit webtoon of the same name.

It’s a mystery thriller following a detective with supernatural powers (played by Yoo Seung Ho), and Han Sun Mi, a genius profiler (played by Lee Se Young), as they join forces to hunt down a mysterious serial killer.

The detective doesn’t try to hide his ability but instead boasts about it everywhere. “Memorist” will mark the second time Yoo Seung Ho and Lee Se Young worked together; they previously shared the screen on the 2012 drama “I Miss You.”

“Memorist” is expected to air in March of 2020.

“Rugal”

The highly anticipated upcoming OCN drama boasts great cast including Choi Jin Hyuk, Park Sung Woong, Jo Dong Hyuk, Jung Hye In, Han Ji Wan, Kim Min Sang, Park Sun Ho, and more.

“Rugal” is a sci-fi action thriller about an elite detective who tries to take down a nationwide criminal organization named Argos. In the process, he loses his eyes and his wife and is framed for murder. He receives an artificial eye with special biotechnological abilities developed by an organization named Rugal, he sets on revenge.

“Rugal” is expected to air some time in March 2020.

“Welcome”

It was recently confirmed that INFINITE L and Shin Ye Eun will lead KBS upcoming drama “Welcome.” It is based on a webtoon of the same name.

It’s written by scriptwriter Joo Hwa Mi, who wrote tvN’s “Marriage, Not Dating” and “Introverted Boss.” The drama will be directed by Ji Byung Hyun, whose previous works include KBS’s “Big” and “House of Bluebird.”

It tells the story of a woman Sol-A (Shin Ye-Eun) in her mid-twenties, she works for a graphic design company. She is a sociable person and dreams of becoming a webcomic artist. One day, she takes home a cat, Hong-Zo (INFINITE L). She is not aware that he’s a special cat that can transform into a human being. She then gets involved in unexpected cases.

“Welcome” is expected to air in March of 2020.

“The Game: Towards Midnight”

2PM’s Taecyeon is set to make his return since his military discharge with the upcoming MBC drama “The Game: Towards Midnight.”

He is joined by Lee Yeon Hee and Im Joo Hwan.

“The Game: Towards Midnight” is a melodrama about a man (Taecyeon) who can see death and a detective (Lee Yeon Hee) who works mysterious murder cases. Im Joo Hwan is taking on the role of a forensic medical examiner; he’s meticulous about his work and strives for perfection.

“The Game: Towards Midnight” is expected to air in the first half of 2020.

“The King: The Eternal Monarch”

“The King: The Eternal Monarch” is probably the most anticipated kdrama of 2020.

The screenplay is penned by the famous writer Kim Eun Sook who previously directed many popular dramas, most recently “Mr. Sunshine.”

This will be her second time working with Lee Min Ho, she previously worked with him on the hit drama “The Heirs,” it’ll also be her second time working with Kim Go Eun, they previously worked on the hit tvN drama “Goblin.”

“The King: The Eternal Monarch” is a story about two parallel universes of a monarchy and a democracy. Both leads will play two different roles in each universe.

The cast also includes Woo Do Hwan, Kim Kyung Nam and Jung Eun Chae.

“The King: The Eternal Monarch” will air on SBS in the first half of 2020. The shooting for this drama begins later this year and in mid-September they held the drama first script reading.

“I’ll Go to You When the Weather Is Nice”

On September 17, it was confirmed that Seo Kang Joon and Park Min Young will lead the upcoming drama.

The drama is based on a novel of the same title, it’s a romantic story set in the countryside.

Park Min Young is taking on the role of Mok Hae Won, an average woman without any special characteristics besides playing the cello since she was young. She wanted to use that skill to step up but it only resulted in heartbreak and loss of trust. She decides to move back to a town in Gangwon Province, where she used to live when she was young.

Seo Kang Joon is taking on the role of Im Eun Seob, he runs a bookstore in Mok Hae Won hometown. He lives a simple life; it gets shaken when Mok Hae Won enters his life.

“I’ll Go to You When the Weather Is Nice” is set to premiere sometime in February 2020.

“Na Rae, Kicking Out”

Back in late September, KBS confirmed that U-KISS’s Jun and Stephanie Lee will lead the upcoming drama.

The drama is a comical action drama, it will center on taekwondo and a former national Taekwondo athlete who loses his status and a person full of good lucky who comes from the countryside.

“Na Rae, Kicking Out”is expected to air in March of 2020.

“Romantic Doctor Kim 2”

Back in mid-September, it was confirmed that Han Suk Kyu will reprise his role for the second season of the popular medical drama “Romantic Doctor Kim 2.”

He will be joined by Lee Sung Kyung and Ahn Hyo Seop.

Screenwriter Kang Eun Kyung, director Yoo In Shik, and lead actor Han Suk Kyu are all returning for the second season. Han Suk Kyu will take on the same role as the genius teacher Kim, while Lee Sung Kyung will play Cha Eun Jae, a second-year fellow in the cardiosurgery department, she loves studying and is considered an elite student.

Ahn Hyo Seop will play the role of Seo Woo Jin, a cynical second-year fellow who doesn’t believe in happiness because of the struggles he suffered when he was a child. He is a talented surgeon.

“Romantic Doctor Kim 2” is expected to air in January of 2020.

“Ssang Gap Pocha”

Back in late August of 2019, JTBC confirmed that Hwang Jung Eum, Yook Sungjae along with Choi Won Young and Lee Joon Hyuk will be starring in the upcoming drama.

The drama is based on a popular webtoon of the same name; the webdrama received 10 out of 10 stars on Daum and even won the Excellence Award at the 2017 Korea Comic Awards.

The story is about a mysterious pojangmacha (outdoor drinking establishment) that appears in many places and its customers. Hwang Jung Eum is taking on the role of the woman who runs the pojangmacha while Yook Sungjae is taking on the role of a customer service employee of a supermarket.

“Ssang Gap Pocha” is directed by Jeon Chang Geun of “The Queen of Office,” “What Happens to My Family,” and others.

“Ssang Gap Pocha” is expected to air in early 2020.

“Nobody Knows”

Actress Kim Seo Hyung who received rave reviews for her performance in “SKY Castle” is leading the upcoming drama “Nobody Knows,” she will be joined by Ryu Deok Hwan.

“Nobody Knows” tells the story of a female detective who lost her close friend when she was young to a serial killer, when the killing spree begins again 19 years later, she starts hunting down that killer. Ryu Deok Hwan will take on the role Shinsung Middle School’s science teacher Lee Sun Woo. He’s someone who tried to quit being a teacher after getting hurt, but decided to continue being a teacher due to the persuasion of others.

“Nobody Knows” is expected to air in January of 2020.

“Half of Half”

In late August of 2019, tvN confirmed that Jung Hae In and Chae Soo Bin will lead the upcoming kdrama titled “Half of Half.”

“Half of Half” tells the story of an artificial intelligence (AI) programmer and classical recording engineer. Jung Hae In is taking on the lead role of a programmer who founded a portal site, he is firm but also nice and rational, he never gets angry.

Chae Soo Bin is taking on the role of a classical recording engineer. She is an optimistic woman despite her unstable lifestyle; she solves math problems when she’s having a difficult time.

“Half of Half” will be written by Lee Sook Yeon, who worked on “On the Way to the Airport,” and directed by Lee Sang Yeop, who worked on tvN’s “Familiar Wife.”

“Half of Half” is expected to air in March of 2020.

“Here”

The news was confirmed on October 8. The star studded lineup already has fans curious. “Here” is an upcoming drama by Noh Hee Kyung who previously worked on many hit projects such as “Live,” “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” and “That Winter, The Wind Blows.”

The main cast includes Lee Byung Hun, Han Ji Min, Shin Min Ah, Bae Sung Woo, and Nam Joo Hyuk. This will be Nam Joo Hyuk and Han Ji Min second time working together, they previously shared the screen in “The Light in Your Eyes” earlier this year.

“Here” tells the story of an international NGO (non-governmental organization), however, not many details have been revealed to the public.

The drama is set to begin filming in 2020 and will likely air in 2020 as well.

“Touch”

It was also recently confirmed that Joo Sang Wook, Kim Bo Ra, Han Da Gam, Lee Tae Hwan, and MOMOLAND’s Yeonwoo will join hands for Channel A’s upcoming drama.

“Touch”  is a rom-com that follows a makeup artist who fell into unemployment because of his debt and a failed idol trainee as they work on achieving their dreams.

“Touch” will air in January 2020.

  1. Hey! you’ve done a great job! Though I am viewing this article after almost a year, its rather good. You’ve done your homework… however there are some other dramas that aired and you have not included them on the list(Its Okay Not to be Okay, Flower of Evil etc)? I was wondering if it was a mistake on your part or were those dramas not pre-announced to be aired in 2020… Keep up your efforts! You a running a good site, hwaiting! <3
