To better understand why reading a book became an issue we have to look at it from a different perspective. The book she referred to was ‘Kim Ji Young Born in ’82’ which became a novel that represents feminism in South Korea.

It’s about an ordinary wife in her 30s named Kim Ji Young, she suffers from depression and faces sexism in her society. The novel was a huge success and sold over 1 million copies. However, the book itself faced backlash for becoming the representative of feminists in South Korea, which is still a sensitive issue and has revolved around many controversial topics in the past.

If you’d like to learn more about why it’s such a controversial issue, watch this video.

Previously, Red Velvet Irene was heavily attacked for stating that she read the same novel while on vacation, this even led to some male fans burning her merchandise.

On a similar note, Gong Yoo and Jung Yu Mi are leading a movie based on this novel. The movie is set to be released this October.

  1. We’re free to read what we want. We should exercise ourselves to be more open minded. World evolve to new generations. I see that some netizens we’re quiet sensitive.
