Suzy has left JYP Entertainment!

On March 26, an industry insider reported to news outlets that Suzy’s contract with her agency of nine years has expired and she won’t be renewing her contract but instead be moving into a different agency.

Shortly after the initial reports came out, JYP Entertainment released an official statement confirming Suzy’s departure from the agency.

Here is their full translated statement:

“Hello, this is JYP Entertainment.

JYP is announcing the expiration of its exclusive contract with artist Suzy on March 31st.

Over the past few months, we have had time many in-depth discussions and both sides have agreed not to proceed with the renewal.

After his debut with group Miss A in 2010, Suzy worked her hardest as JYP with more enthusiasm than anyone.

In 2017, we renewed her contract based on solid mutual trust.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Suzy, who went through ups and downs with JYP for the past 9 years from 2010 until now, and for providing the joy of growth together with JYP.

In addition, we express our gratitude to all the fans who have given generous love to all the achievements and challenges that JYP and Suzy had taken on together.

The official relationship is over, but JYP will sincerely cheer for the path of Suzy in the future.

Thank you.”

Suzy is currently working on her upcoming blockbuster drama “Vagabond” and will be starring in the upcoming film “Mount Baekdu.”

My Personal Thoughts

With all honesty, when she renewed her contract back in 2017 I was surprised. I had thought she’d leave the agency for an acting agency.

JYP and Suzy both helped each other through thick and thin, I am a JYP stan for a reason. Reading the statement, I can see they care deeply about her. It’s a beautiful goodbye statement.

We’ll always cheer on Suzy. I am a fan of her dedication in whatever she did. She started out lacking in many areas but developed and worked hard on herself, pushed boundaries and changed the way people think of her, she is not just a pretty face but can sing, dance and act well.

Her decision to leave is understandable, right now JYP is doing extremely well with TWICE, GOT7 and the new groups. They’re hella busy and have a lot on their hands.

I know they would have tried their best for Suzy but I also believe she would benefit more in an actor’s agency where there is more focus on her. I have heard the songs she released as a soloist. I have noticed they didn’t perform as well on the charts as I had personally expected them to be. She did well but not as well as I think it was anticipated.

I think she plans on doing CFs and dramas in the future. Many idols who debuted around 2010 male and female are either continuing down the acting path or choosing the variety path.

An idol’s career is short (in terms of singing), younger idols debut every day and the older become forgotten fast. I still believe Suzy will release music in the future (probably OSTs and a single every once and a while) but her focus will be on acting.

She is a clever woman and knows what she’s doing. I wish her the best!
