Who can believe it has been exactly 2 years since YG Entertainment officially announced that one of the biggest girl groups of our time is disbanding?
2NE1 is considered one of the bestselling girl groups and one of the best performers; they have sold millions of records throughout their careers.
Back then, YG Entertainment announced that Park Bom would be leaving the agency while CL and Dara remained signed in.
In an interview in early 2017, Yang Hyun Suk explained his decision to disband 2NE1 which he attributed to Park Bom. He said,
“When Minzy left to another agency. I wanted to save 2NE1, which is what led to the decision to disband the group, it was the state of Park Bom’s mental health. After her incident (the drug scandal) we received endless criticism. In addition to the stress and guilt from that, I am sure Bom felt that she wanted to continue with the group but I told her, ‘2NE1 is important but I wish for you to be healthy, both mentally and physically.’”
Since 2016, so many things happened to the girls of 2NE1, their love and support for each other remain to this day, they meet up when possible and share photos of their reunions.
Let’s talk about what happened to each 2NE1 former member since the disbandment.
Starting with the leader of the group, CL has been preparing for her American album debut for the longest time. She has yet to break into the American market.
In an interview in early 2017, CL talked about her fears of being forgotten due to lack of promotions, she had released two songs back then “Lifted” and “Hello Bitches” both songs she said were not an official debut but she was keeping her spirit high back then.
She also explained that it has always been her dream to break into the US market.
In the past two years, CL has been actively teasing her fans with snippets of her songs and letting them know she was back in the studio working on music.
In March 2017, CL reunited with Bom and Dara to cheer Dara on during her Korean film debut in the movie adaptation of “Cheese In The Trap.”
Back in April 2017, when Minzy debuted CL was sure to show her support. She congratulated her on her solo debut, she wrote,
“Congratz @_minzy_mz on your EP proud of you chasing your dreams :)”
Out of the three 2NE1 members, CL mostly uploaded photos and video of vacations, meet-ups and much more with Dara. They are known for being extremely close to each other.
In August 2017, she wrote a candid letter to fans letting them know her side of the story as well as the reason for her continuous American album debut delays, she wrote,
“I want to thank my fans for being patient/impatient and for always being there for me.
The past couple years I went through some changes, both good and bad. I went through breakups; from my love to my group…etc. I was completely broken. It was not easy for me because this was all I had in my life.
I promise you new music soon. I just want u to know I’m on my way and haven’t given up.”
In October 2017, it was revealed she was one of the mentors who will help out trainees in “MIXNINE” alongside Yang Hyun Suk and many others.
In November 2017, tvN’s music variety program starring BIGBANG member Taeyang, CL, and Oh Hyuk aired its first episode. It provided fans with a closer look to CL’s mind and train of thoughts as well.
In the show, she opened up about 2NE1’s disbandment and revealed that she suffered because of it and didn’t realize it until later on. It was the first time she opened up about the disbandment on Korean TV.
“I feel sad about how things turned out.
Personally, it was hard for me. Because I was the leader from an early age, I feel a strange responsibility. I wanted to keep going until the end.”
In the same show, she also revealed that she has recorded and made over 200 songs since coming to America.
CL featured on Lil Yachty’s song “Surrender”, an exclusive track off of the Target deluxe edition of his album Teenage Emotions, released on May 26, 2017.
She also recorded an original single titled “No Better Feelin'” for the My Little Pony: The Movie soundtrack, released on September 22, 2017.
On August 20, she performed The Black Eyed Peas at Japan’s “Summer Sonic 2017” music festival.
In January 2018, she made a very bold move and released snippets of a song called “All In.” She wrote to fans,
“I remember this time last year, I promised myself I would put new music out in 2017. I know you’ve all been waiting and I wanted to end the year with a gift to you guys. This video is something I shot over a year ago and it may or may not ever come out but I always loved it and was sad that it never got a chance to make it to you guys.”
I have checked her Instagram and the videos have been deleted.
On January 5th, 2018, she announced she would be making her Hollywood movie debut in “Mile 22” directed by Peter Berg, starring Myke Holmes, Peter Berg, John Malkovich, and Jenique Hendrix.
The Hollywood movie “Mile 22” tells the story of a CIA officer and an Indonesian police officer who team up to confront extreme political corruption together.
It was officially released On August 17, 2018.
Also in January, she teased fans saying she was waiting for YG to release her album. Fans got extremely excited at the time and tried to let YG know and release her album.
On February 25, 2018, CL along with EXO performed at the 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremony at Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium.
She wowed the audience performing parts from “The Baddest Female” and “I Am the Best.”
After the ceremony, CL met with South Korean President Moon Jae in, First Lady Kim Jung Sook, EXO and Ivanka Trump.
Fans knew something was up with CL and Yang Hyun Suk back in early 2018, but it reached a new height when CL personally confronted him on Instagram asking him to answer his phone and call her back.
“What about me, boss?” adding the hashtag, “Please respond to my text messages.”
While researching the post, I found out that Yang Hyun Suk deleted that Instagram post.
In May, she personally leaked two new snippets of her tracks, since then she deleted them from Instagram. But fans reuploaded them and posted them to social media accounts.
She also made headlines when she captured by camera lenses looking different, fans commented on her apparent weight gain back in August.
On October 26, The Black Eyed Peas released their album “Masters of the Sun,” along with a music video for its sixth track “Dopeness.” CL features in the song and sings her entire part in English.
In November 2018, she responded to rumors that said she parted ways with Scooter Braun through twitter, she refuted the rumors.
Dara is indisputably the most active former member of 2NE1, although she prefers to be called 2NE1 Dara.
In 2016, she joined the judging panel of ABS-CBN’s reality singing competition show “Pinoy Boyband Superstar,” alongside Filipino top stars Yeng Constantino, Vice Ganda, and Aga Muhlach.
The show was a huge success after it aired its first episode in September 2016, becoming one of the most watched weekend shows. Inevitably, she became the first former 2NE1 member to respond to the disbandment since the show aired while the disbandment news was announced.
She asked a fan to publish a letter she personally wrote after the disbandment.
In 2017, she was involved in dating rumors with Gdragon (yet again) which she refuted profusely on many instances in the future.
On the course of the past two years, Dara guest appeared and hosted many shows in South Korea.
She also joined OnStyle’s “Get It Beauty 2017” along with Honey Lee, Lee Se Young, and gugudan’s Kim Sejeong which aired its first episode in February.
In March 2017, she joined Park Hae Jin and many others in the movie adaptation of “Cheese in the Trap.” It was her first Korean film debut.
In April 2017, her first musical film “One Step” was released, its production was inspired by the domestic Korean success of the American film, Begin Again.
She also clarified that her relationship with all the former 2NE1 members is still great after rumors spread saying that Minzy wasn’t on good terms with her after only CL and Bom showed up to support her movie debut.
In April of the same year, she opened up about her desire to debut solo but she said that she hasn’t talked to Yang Hyun Suk back then.
She also showed support for Minzy’s official solo debut alongside other former members.
She opened up her own YouTube channel DaraTV in July 2017. She shares many videos of herself and her friends as well.
She also made an appearance on variety show “Insolent Roommates” alongside Block B’s P.O who had previously described her as his ideal type. Fans loved their interactions and shipped them together.
In August 2017 on an episode of MBC’s “All Broadcasts of the World,” Henry and actor Joo Sang Wook called Yang Hyun Suk to ask him why he hasn’t released anything for Dara for the past three years.
He answered that he and Dara haven’t officially sat down to discuss the album, he said,
“Dara has yet to come to me with such a request.”
In September 2017, she guest performed at Gdragon’s concert in Manila. On the first disbandment anniversary of 2NE1 fans trended the hashtag #2NE1DeservedBetter, dara responded with her own hashtag #BlackjacksDeservedBetter.
In 2018, she became one of the celebrities who carried the torch for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics alongside Super Junior’s Yesung and Donghae, Noh Hong Chul and others.
In 2018, she joined the cast of three variety shows “Mimi Shop,” “Real Men 300” and “Borrow Trouble.”
In September 2018, Dara reunited with Minzy. Minzy performed at the opening ceremony for Season 81 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, and it seems that the two met up in Manila.
The least active member of the entire group is Park Bom who took a long time before she even got back to social media to greet fans once again.
She did start using social media in 2017, and was rumored to join YG’s Sub label The Black Label but YG Entertainment shut down those rumors to rest.
For the course of 2017, there wasn’t much heard about Bom.
However, things changed in 2018. She sat down for an interview to clarify her drug scandal after MBC’s show “PD Notebook” brought up her incident.
She sat down for an interview with Sports Kyunghyang, she said she never did drugs and was investigated and cleared from charges. She talked about suffering from ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), a disorder that’s not well known in Korea.
She also said she gave up singing because of the scandal but after that report, “PD Notebook” published she wanted to get back to singing.
Starting June 2018, she started hinting at getting back to the studio and working on a new album. She signed with D-NATION which is led by producer Scotty Kim and creative director Ray Yeom back on July 20, 2018.
She continued to show her love for her fans and for 2NE1, she (as I mentioned previously) met up frequently with former 2NE1 members and sent words of encouragement whenever a girl of her former group released something.
Park Bom reunited with BIGBANG’s Seungri through a special appearance on “YG Future Strategy.”
She is still working hard on her return as a soloist backed up by her fans who can’t wait to hear her voice again and see her on TV. She is rumored to return with new music some time in 2019.
She left 2NE1 back in April 2016 and signed with CJ E&M’s subsidiary label Music Works.
In 2017, she sang for “Rebel Thief Who Stole The Night” and participated in the second season of “Sister’s Slam Dunk 2” alongside Kim Sook, Hong Jin Kyung, Kang Ye Won, Han Chae Young, Hong Jin Young, and Jeon Somi.
The program also centered around making a new girl group, Minzy commented that she wanted to meet new people and make memories with them which was why she agreed to join the program.
She even delayed her solo debut to focus on it.
She officially made her solo debut in April 2017 with her first mini album, “MINZY WORK 01 UNO,” she released a music video for title track “NINANO” featuring rapper Flowsik.
She managed to snatch the No. 1 spot on the US and Brazil iTunes charts with her first solo album. She also snagged the No. 1 spot on Korea’s Olleh Music chart. Her album was celebrated by her fans who had been waiting for her to make her solo debut.
Minzy also confirmed her first Japanese concert. It was held on May 5 at Hitotsubashi Hall in Tokyo, Japan
She made a couple of more variety show appearances during 2017 and kept a close friendship with her fellow “Sister’s Slam Dunk 2” co-stars. They often met up and showed support for each other solo projects.
In August 2017, she completed her college education. She had entered Baekseok University in 2014 majoring in Christian theology. She earned a reputation as a diligent student who earned impressive grades.
In September 2018, Minzy’s agency Music Works announced that Minzy would hold her “DANCE BREAK TOUR” in 10 American cities from November 21 to December 9.
Her tour was going to kick off at San Francisco and continue on through Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Washington, New York, Chicago, Toronto, and Vancouver.
However, on November 1st, 2018, she uploaded a handwritten letter to her fans letting them know that the tour leg of US and Canada has been delayed, she wrote,
“I just found out that I have to postpone my tour to early 2019.”
The reasoning was,
“Due to label delays we have to reschedule the US & Canada leg of the tour. My label is working very hard to finish the music.”

A letter to my US and Canada fans ❤️: I just found out that I have to postpone my tour to early 2019 💔. I have recorded new music that I planned to showcase on my tour but due to label delays we have to reschedule the US & Canada leg of the tour. My label is working very hard to finish the music. I will still be honoring the poster winners and #dancebreakchallenge winners when we reschedule the tour. I’m sorry for the delays but thank you for your love and support and I’m going to focus on releasing new music and choreography very soon. It is 🔥 that I can’t wait to share with you! I promise I’ll be seeing you soon! 💕 Love you 💕 Minzy
