2PM’s Wooyoung recently revealed that he has resigned his exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment.

Back in 2015, the members of 2PM resigned a special three-year contract with JYP Entertainment, their exclusive contracts are coming to an end this month.

2PM’s Wooyoung has made his solo comeback with his second mini album on January 15. The idol sat down for an interview and revealed that he had resigned. When questioned about it, he said,

“I re-signed. Other 2PM members might have different circumstances, but I went with the direction of renewing my contract. Its January 2018.”

He also added,

“It seems like each 2PM member have their own thoughts, but I doubt that it will cause any issues for 2PM. We decided not to burden each other about that.

Of course, if we decided to all stick with JYP it would make things a lot tidier. However, its important to respect ourselves as individuals. Respecting ourselves as individuals is the right thing for 2PM. We promised each other that we will protect 2PM wherever we go in the future.”

Regarding the rest of the group contract renewal, a source from JYP Entertainment said,

“2PM still has time left on their contract. Taecyeon is currently serving in the army, all the other members are busy with their own schedules in Korea and abroad, we’re currently in the process of re-signing.”

Do you think the rest of the 2PM will resign with JYP Entertainment?

My Thoughts

Hmmmm…. I doubt all of the members will resign with JYP Entertainment.

That 3-year contract was for the members to test the waters and see how well will they perform solo and as a group, of course this is what I believe it was.

Many artists re-sign for 5 years or so, I was kinda taken back when they only re-signed for 3 years. It means that they don’t want to be held down for too long, they also had to consider their upcoming military enlistment.

It will take 3-5 years before the entire group re-ensemble, by then (and it pains me to say this) the public would have moved on to the next big younger group. Sad, but true.

2PM last comeback didn’t so well in South Korea, but the group is big enough that it still makes the biggest revenue. Now JYP is focusing on TWICE and GOT7, you can’t blame him, he’s trying to establish the younger artist who still have long careers ahead of them.

Of course, this is only my reaction to the news, not a statement of facts. Having followed 2PM and been a fan of them for a while, I kinda believe this would be what they’d do, I could be wrong!

I will support them together or separate. What Wooyoung said was right, its time they consider themselves. I don’t believe they will stop contacting each other or stop being friends even if the group disbanded, they will always be 2PM.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
