2017 is drawing close to an end, I loved so many kdramas of 2017 and can’t wait to see what 2018 to come.

There are so many of our favorite idol-actors and actors who are coming back to the small screen in 2018, including IU, Park Hyung Sik, Seo Kang Joon and Kim So Hyun.

So today at jazminemedia.com I will be discussing 15 Korean dramas I can’t wait to see in 2018 categorized by broadcasting network.

Radio Romance

The upcoming anticipated Kim So Hyun comeback is generating buzz way ahead of its premiere date.

The drama stars Yoon Doo Joon and Kim So Hyun, the two were only recently confirmed for the drama, the rest of the cast is still in talks.

“Radio Romance” tells the story of Song Geu Rim (Kim So Hyun) works as a radio program writer. Her mother is blind and as a child she listened to the radio frequently with her mother.

This led her to become a radio program writer, but she isn’t exactly talented in writing. Now, the radio program that she works on is facing cancellation. Song Geu-Rim succeeds in casting top actor Ji Soo Ho (Yoon Doo Joon).

The drama is set to take over the time slot previously occupied by “Jugglers.”

The drama will air beginning 29 January 2018 every Mondays & Tuesdays 22:00.


Queen of Mystery 2

Broadcasting date: some time in February.

The upcoming kdrama is the second season of the successful crime drama “Queen of Mystery” earlier this 2017.

The drama will be directed by a different director but the same writer is penning the second season of the drama.

The two main leads Choi Gang Hee and Kwon Sang will reprise their roles once again for the second season.

More details about the drama specific plot for the second season are yet to be revealed, the exact release date in February is also yet to be determined.


Are You Human Too?

Considered one of the most anticipated 2018 releases, the drama is probably this list most expensive production.

The drama started shooting at the end of June and finished at the end of November. The drama tells the story of a rich son played by Seo Kang Joon, the son goes into a coma and his father sets up a robot (also played by Seo Kang Joon).

The drama took two years in planning and the budget is more than 10 billion won (approx. 9.2$ million). Some of the drama filming took place in in the Czech Republic. The production team confirmed that they would be working on the 18 episodes editing with full efforts.

Gong Seung Yeon plays the role of the bodyguard So Bong, for the robot played by Seo Kang Joon.

Other actors have also joined the cast, including Lee Joon Hyuk, Park Hwan Hee, Kim Seong Ryung, Park Young Gyu, Yoo Sung, and Kim Won Hae.

Let’s be real, if actor Kim Won Hae is in this drama, I am almost 100% sure it’s a good drama, he’s a veteran actor who knows how to choose good projects!


Suits

Who else is excited about Park Hyung Sik comeback drama?

Park Hyung Sik has picked a particularly unique plot for his comeback drama following the success of “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.”

The Drama series is a remake of the U.S. drama series “Suits” that aired on cable network USA from 2011.

It will also be directed by director Kim Jin Woo, the same director who has worked on “Queen of Mystery season 1,” “Good Doctor” and “Healer.”

The drama tells the story of Choi Kyung-Seo (Jang Dong-Gun), a man who is a legendary lawyer at the top law firm in South Korea. He has charisma and attractive appearance. He hires Go Yeon-Woo (Park Hyung Sik) as a rookie lawyer for the law firm. Go Yeon-Woo has excellent memory.

The rest of the cast for the drama is to be confirmed.

Lee Jin Wook, Shin Sung Rok and Go Hyun Jung will lead the upcoming crime related drama.

“Return” tells the story of Choi Ja Hae (Go Hyun Jung), a lawyer who comes from a poor family background, she hosts the TV legal show “Return.” The drama will focus on tracing the truth behind a murder case that involves suspects in the upper class of society.

Shin Sung Rok will play the role of Oh Tae Suk, the CEO of an IT company who is rich enough that he doesn’t need to work anymore for the rest of his life. He creates a new smartphone application that wins him the Businessman of the Year award. To cover up for his past mistakes he becomes devil like and unbearable.

The drama will air its first episode on January 17, each Wednesday & Thursday at 22:00.


Four Sons

Park Hae Jin is coming back with a new drama in 2018, the drama has been the talk of the town for quite a while. Many things happened since the drama production company confirmed the main cast.

Originally, the drama was supposed to air on SBS broadcasting station but the drama was dropped out of SBS back on September 19 as confirmed by an industry insider of SBS.

The drama stars After School’s Nana, Park Hae Jin, Kwak Si Yang, Kyung Soo Jin, and NU’EST’s Ren.

The drama will be 100% pre-produced.



“Four Sons” will tell the story of a female detective who meets the quadruplet brothers of her previous lover, Nana will play the younger detective Yeo Rin, Park Hae Jin will play the four sons.

The young detective is determined to dig into the death of her lover and gets entangled in unexpected events.

Kwak So Yang will play the second male lead role of Choi Jin Soo, he’ll play the figure of daddy long legs and protect the female lead Yeo Rin. He is a close friend of her late boyfriend Dong Min to be played by Park Hae Jin, he is also an elite police officer.

NU’EST’s Ren will play the role of Yeo Hoon, he is a loveable character and the younger brother of Nana’s character Yeo Rin and the youngest of his family. He is the vitamin of the family but also had dark secrets.

The drama is to be written by “Cheese in the Trap” writer Kim Jae Young, and is to be directed by Oh Jin Suk who previously worked on many hit dramas like “Yong Pal”, and “My Sassy Girl” and many others.


Longing Heart

Its one of OCN’s most anticipated dramas of 2018. “Longing Heart” is based on the webcomic series “Aeganjang” by Kim Hee-Ran & Kim Byung-Gwan, and tells the story of Kang Shin Woo (Lee Jung Shin) who is a math teacher with a good-looking appearance.

He hasn’t forgotten his first love Han Ji-Soo (Lee Yeol Eum) for the past 10 years. By an accident, he travels back to the past when he was a high school student.

There, he meets his younger self (Seo Ji Hoon). Kang Shin Woo struggles to make the young version of himself achieve true love.

“Longing Heart” will take over the Mondays & Tuesdays 21:00 time slot previously occupied by “Meloholic.”


That Man Oh Soo

The upcoming OCN drama “That Man Oh Soo” will be led by Lee Jong Hyun, Kim So Eun, and Kang Tae Oh.

The drama tells the story of Oh Soo (Lee Jong Hyun) a man in his 20’s and who works as a promising engineer in the IT field, he’s also a cafe owner and a barista. He is both smart and handsome.

He plays the role of cupid for you men and women by using a mysterious pollen. By accident and due to the pollen, he falls in love with Seo Yoo Ri (Kim So Eun). She is a police officer in her 20’s. She has a bright personality and supports her family by herself.

“That Man Oh Soo” will take over the Mondays & Tuesdays 21:00 time slot previously occupied by “Longing Heart.”

The drama will be led by Lee Bo Young, Lee Jae Yoon, Lee Hye Young, Go Sung Hee.

The drama is a remake of 2010 NTV drama series “Mother” that aired on Japanese TV.

Fans are excited to see Lee Bo Young unnie come back drama. The actress is known to picking great projects.

But what is the story behind “Mother”?

The plot tells the story of a young girl named Hye Na (Heo Yool) who is abused by her mother Ja Young (Ko Sung Hee). She forces herself to smile hiding the pain from others around.



Soo Jin (Lee Bo Young) is a temporary teacher at the elementary school where Hye Na attends. Soo Jin becomes aware of her situation and decides to be her  mother.

Young actress Heo Yool had to go through auditions and beat almost 400 other young actresses for the role in the drama.

The drama will be directed by Kim Cheol Kyu, the director has previously worked on “Chicago Typewriter,” “Emergency Couples” and many other dramas.

The drama will be penned by screenwriter Jung Seo Kyoung, this is the screenwriter first drama, she has previously worked on the infamous movie “I’m a Cyborg,” “But That’s OK” and has also written the critically acclaimed movie “The Handmaiden” as well.

Fans are excited to see what will the director and exceptional screenwriter mix will result in. with Lee Bo Young and the rest of a talented cast, the drama is one of the most anticipated kdramas of 2018.

The drama will be led by Go Kyung Pyo, Jo Jae Hyun, Jeon So Min, Kim Ji Han, and Yang Jin Sung.

The drama has one interesting plot, it tells the story of Kang In Kyu’s (Go Kyung Pyo) father was brutally murdered 15 years ago. To take revenge on those who are responsible for his father’s death, he becomes a doctor.

Kang In Kyu volunteers at a prison medical office where the murdered is imprisoned.

“Cross” will take over Mondays & Tuesdays 21:30 time slot previously occupied by “Rude Miss Young-Ae Season 16.” And is set to air its first episode in January 2018, but an exact air date is yet to be confirmed.


Mr. Sunshine

Probably the most anticipated Korean drama of 2018, “Mr. Sunshine” is the legendary screenwriter Kim Eun Sook’s comeback drama in 2018. The famous writer is well known for many hit kdramas such as “Goblin,” “Descendants Of The Sun,” “The Heirs,” and many others.

The drama is led by a star-studded cast, which includes Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae Ri, Yoo Yoon Suk, and Byun Yo Han.

“Mr. Sunshine” tells the story of will be the story of a young boy who travels to the United States during the 1871 Shinmiyangyo [U.S. expedition to Korea], he returns to his homeland later as an American soldier.

It’s a melodrama that aims to shine the spotlight on the lives of soldiers who have been forgotten in the history books but should still be remembered.

The drama was supposed to air in the first half of 2018, but has changed broadcasting date to June or July to ensure creating the highest cinematic quality.

Drama filming is already underway, it began filming in early November but they are said to be behind schedule, leading to the decision that was made not too long ago. The drama was originally scheduled to begin airing in May 2018.

The drama has also attracted attention for the large age gap between Lee Byung Hun and Kim Tae Ri, the two actors are 20 years apart, many fans wonder if they’d be able to pull off good chemistry for the drama.

The drama will air Saturdays & Sundays at 21:00.

Lee Byung Hun is making his tv comeback through this drama after 9 years, and this is actress Kim Tae Ri’s first EVER TV drama role.


My Ahjusshi

The main cast will feature IU, Lee Sun Gyun, Na Moon Hee And Oh Dal Soo and Song Sae Byuk.

The upcoming tvN drama will be directed by Kim Won Suk who has previously worked on “Misaeng” and “Signal.” The script will be written by Park Hae Young who has previously worked on “Another Oh Hae Young.”

The drama will tell the story of three brothers who struggle with their own lives separately, and a woman who is both cold and distant due to the many hardships she faced in her life, together they learn to enjoy and appreciate life and heal their past wounds.

Lee Sun Gyun will play Park Dong Hoon, the second oldest son of the three brothers, he’s an engineer in an architectural company, who always approaches everything in a safe matter. He is quiet but gives his all for the people he cares about.

IU will play Lee Ji An, the cold woman who’s suffered from many hardships in her life. As a part of her job she’s instructed by her boss to find Park Dong Hoon weakness. She ends up falling in love with his warm character, Lee Ji An learns how to trust someone for the first time.

Oh Dal Soo will play Park Sang Hoon, he’s the eldest brother and a middle-aged man who is let go from his firm, he ran two businesses who ended up failing, this leads him to be chased out of his house. He moves in to his mother’s house, despite all the hardships he’s faced with, he continues to search for happiness.

Song Sae Byuk will play the role of the youngest brother, a genius director who directed an independent film that snagged him an invitation to Cannes Film Festival. Despite that great start, 20 years has passed and he’s still trying to successfully establish a career as a director.

Idol-actress Hello Venus Nara were also confirmed to join the cast of the upcoming drama, she will play the role of Choi Yoo Ra, a movie actress who has a thing for movie producer Park Ki Hoon (to be played by Song Sae Byuk).

The idol-actress has first garnered attention for her stable acting in SBS’s hit 2017 drama “Suspicious Partner,” it was her first acting project since her debut as a part of the idol group Hello Venus.

Actress Lee Ji Ah has also been confirmed to return to the small screen through “My Ahjusshi.”

She will take on the role of Kang Yoon Hee, Park Dong Hoon’s wife (to be played by Lee Sun Gyun). This is the actress first comeback to the small screen in 2 years, her last drama project was in 2015 when she starred in SBS’s one-act drama “Snow Lotus.”

The drama has been surrounded by controversy because of the unlikely pairing between IU and Lee Sun Gyun, they’re both 20 years apart, many netizens felt that the age gap was too big.

Only time will tell if those two can pull it off and create good chemistry despite their huge 17 gap.

“My Ahjusshi” is said to begin filming this December, and it will take over the Wednesday & Thursday 21:10 time slot previously occupied by “Mother.”

The upcoming Korean drama stars Yoon Hyun Min and Ahn Woo Yeon.

I was especially excited about the upcoming drama because I am a huge fan of Yoon Hyun Min, he had a good 2017, and will probably continue to do so in 2018.

There aren’t much details about the drama yet, the drama will be directed by Kim Sang Ho, the director has previously worked on many kdramas such as “Hwajung,” “When a Man Loves,” and “Arang and the Magistrate.”

The drama is based on webcomic called “Haneuleseo Ddeoleojin Pol” written by Nam Ji Eun.


Han Yeo Reum’s Memory

Choi Kang Hee will play the role of Han Yeo Reum, while Lee Joon Hyuk will play the role of Park Hae Joon.

The drama tells the story of Han Yeo Reum, who is a writer for radio programs. She is single and in her 30’s. She used to be beautiful and popular with men but nowadays, she feels lonely and wants to fall in love. Park Hae Joon is pop music columnist. These two will meet.

The drama is yet to release more information about the air date and the time slot it’ll be taking over.


Misty

The drama is led by Kim Nam Joo, Ji Jin Hee, and Jun Hye Jin.

The upcoming JTBC drama tells the story of Go Hye Ran (Kim Nam Joo), a popular anchor-woman for a prime-time news show. She works hard at her job. One day, Go Hye Ran suddenly becomes the suspect in a murder case.

Her husband is Kang Tae Wook (Ji Jin Hee). He worked as a prosecutor in the past, but he now works as a public defender. Their marriage has been unstable and was reaching an end. Kang Tae Wook decides to defend his wife who was falsely accused, the two fall in love again.

The drama will take over the time slot previously occupied by “Untouchable,” and will air Fridays & Saturdays at 23:00.


So, these are 15 very interesting drama I cannot wait to see in 2018, some are more exciting than others, nonetheless, 2018 has packed some great actors with promising scripts, it’ll be interesting to see which drama will intrigue me enough to review and recap it.
